Yes, we know it's been almost a week since The Strokes were on SNL, but we've had a busy week; give us a break! Now we're all caught up, and delivering you the goods. First up are two vids from the SNL performance: the single "Under Cover Of Darkness", and the new track "Life Is Simple In The Moonlight". Then come two more parts in the "making of Angles" EPK series. Finally, if you scour the internet, you may just be able to find leaked copies of "Machu Piccu" and "Taken For A Fool" - and you might just find them awesome.

Angles drops March 22nd, The Strokes play Madison Square Garden on April 1st.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs Played SNL - Video

Out and about to promote their new record It's Blitz!, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs stopped in at Saturday Night Live, and pretty much nailed it. While we weren't quite as enthralled as we were by Phoenix's performance last week, it was still a completely solid performance. The band played their latest single, "Zero", as well as the now classic "Maps". Performance wise, both were immaculate, but we have to admit that we were kind if surprised (and a bit bummed) that Karen O didn't go a little more batshit crazy up in that piece. Still, you can't argue with the tunage being completely solid, and SNL batting a solid two for two in April thus far. Total win.

Phoenix Played SNL Last Night, And It Was Amazing - Video

Well, if you missed it, you really missed it. Phoenix played Saturday Night Live last night, and they simply killed it. The performance was completely loaded with charisma and charm, and at the same time sonically and technically unbeatable. It was seriously one of the best SNL performances we've ever seen. Given that the band isn't particularly well known in the US at this point, the crowd reaction at the end of the tunes pretty much sums up just how badass the band's delivery was.


As per our prediction yesterday (ahem), the band played "Lisztomania" and "1901". However, as though reading our very minds (or rather, our blog), they proceeded to close out the show with a killer version of "Too Young". We managed to snag the first two tunes for you off of Hulu, but "Too Young" doesn't appear to have surfaced as of yet. We'll keep an eye out. In the meantime, dig into these vids and enjoy some rock and roll awesomeness with your morning coffee. It really is that good. Promise.

Phoenix: "Lisztomania", SNL Tonight

Things are starting to heat up in the Phoenix camp as the band ramps up to the release of their new record Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix. For one, the next single, "Lisztomania" has made it's way to the interwebs, and is firmly proving that "1901" was not a fluke in it's awesomeness. The band is currently filming an official video for the tune, but some kind soul has created an 80's movie mashup that you can watch above, if only to hear the new tune. That being said, the vid is pretty awesome as well.

On top of the new tunage, the band is also all set to make an appearance on Saturday Night Live this evening. While we recommend you catch it on TV (this stuff always looks better on the big screen), we can tell you that we'll be digging the vids up ASAP, so don't stress too much. While it's just a guess, we're willing to wager that tonight's tunes will be "1901" and "Lisztomania". That being said, we really wouldn't mind hearing something a bit older as well. No, we wouldn't mind one bit.

In the meantime, if you're bored and half as obsessed with the band as we are, we highly recommend their blog. It's fantastic.

TV On The Radio Played SNL - We Actually, Um, Liked It?

Earlier in the week, it seemed that there was almost-ubiquitous dismissal of TV On The Radio's set on SNL last weekend. The complaints ranged from poor vocals, to a murky mix, to a lack of charisma by the band.

Well we, being the A/V snobs that we are, had held off on watching the web clips in favor of a viewing on our pretty little home theater setup. We watched it last night, and here's the thing: we loved it. Now, granted, we always take SNL with a grain of salt: despite getting many great acts, the performances can be sub par. But the web's criticism seemed so universal, that we were expecting a complete and total flub.

By contrast, what we actually got was one of the most solid, non-canned, enthusiastic performaces we've seen on SNL in quite some time. Sure, maybe the vocals weren't totally perfect, and maybe the mix wasn't the same as on the record, but this is a LIVE performance. The fact that it's not as perfect as the record is not necessarily a bad thing, and you have to remember the band is no doubt on edge as well. The fact of the matter is that they blew through two awesome songs with complex arrangements, and did a damn good job on it. The bassline alone on "Golden Age" is enough to get us going.

While we'd love to hook you up with the vids to compare for yourself, they appear to have disappeared from the interwebs. Instead, you can check out the interview clip above - that's all Hulu was willing to feed to us. Seriously though, we do have to say: blogosphere, ease up! And for you guys in TVOTR - keep kicking ass. The show certainly wasn't a let down in our eyes, and you can bet we'll have it saved on the ol' Tivo for quite a few months to come...
