To be frank, our interest in Nine Inch Nails has waned a few in the past few years. While their political stance on music distribution we heartily agree with, their music hasn't been totally grabbing us as of late. On a separate note, we tend to be something of Nikon devotees here. Not that Canon is bad, but you know: you have to pick a side.
All that being said, this video of NIN playing "Burn" and "Wish" in Melbourne is simply to die for. Shot on the new Canon 5d Mark II, it's full 1080p video, and looks completely incredible. If you don't find something to enjoy here (either musical or technical), your soul may be a little bit dead. Look into it.

Nine Inch Nails / Deerhunter On-Sale Sunday
While we're not really ones to frequent arena shows, this may be an exception. First, you have the persistent notoriety of NIN's live shows, even in large venues. Second, you have one of the most exciting and also notoriously great live bands out there today, Deerhunter. It seems like a lineup that can't be beat, even if it is Oracle Arena. Well, make your own call, but regardless: tickets are on-sale Sunday at 10 AM.

New Nine Inch Nails Album: Yes, For Free, Again
You know the two free Nine Inch Nails singles that came out over the last two weeks? Well, it turns out they were just a handy preview of the band's latest album, The Slip. Conveniently, the disc is now available on nin.com for for free. We're not exactly sure what Reznor's plan is here, but I guess the Ghosts thing was to his liking, and frankly, we think it's awesome.

More Free Nine Inch Nails
Following their free release of "Discipline" last week, Nine Inch Nails is back with another free release, "Echoplex". This time the song is available for free via the facebook iLike application, although it doesn't appear that you need to be a member to get the mp3. The song seems to be in the same vein as "Discipline" in that it reaches back to the more synthy beats of Pretty Hate Machine, but also calls upon the sizeable instrumental catalog Reznor has built up over the years. And there are handclaps. Yes, in a Nine Inch Nails song. Check it out for yourself.

New Nine Inch Nails, "Discipline", Available For Free
In his continued one-man-fight against the record industry, Trent Reznor has just released the latest Nine Inch Nails single, "Discipline", for free on the web. Go here, enter your email, and get a free mp3!
To our ears it's pretty classic, straight-ahead rock Nine Inch Nails. Which is to say, awesome. The really neat thing is that it has a lot of the classic analog synths of early NIN, while at the same time incorporating some of the keyboard work of more recent stuff. It's a really nice contrast to the ethereal ambient vibe of Ghosts. Highly recommended.
