On Saturday night we had the pleasure of stopping in at Le Poisson Rouge and checking out an intimate set from Mike Doughty. The former Soul Coughing frontman delivered an acoustic set comprised exclusively of tunes from his solo career to a room of devout fans. Despite our desire to hear the earlier material, we have to say that Doughty's newer compositions unquestionably hold their own. Moreover, his unique lyrical style and delivery are firmly in tact, making for an entertaining set.

Mike Doughty Coming To The Independent In May
While his stage banter could at times use some politeness modifications, we have to say we have s soft spot for Mike Doughty. Ever since his days with Soul Coughing, the singer/poet/songwriter has offered up a unique skill at composition and delivery that is entirely his own.
Last year Doughty dropped his latest solo record, Golden Delicious, and it's exactly what we'd consider go-to Doughty. Rhythmic, upbeat, word played compositions that catch your ear and stick with you for days afterward.
Doughty's been ferociously touring in support of the new record, and he's not slowing down any time soon. He's planned a series of dates for April and May, which include a number of stops on the west coast. If you're in the mood for some catchy, eccentric, acoustic pop, we highly recommend you check it out. He'll be at the Independent on May 9th, and tickets are on-sale now.

A Mike Doughty Freakout For Your Entertainment
We don't like to harp on such things, but this freakout by the former Soul Coughing front man is just a little bit too entertaining not to watch. Apparently Doughty has since apologized for the event, but it's still something of a notable disaster. We feel for you man, but seriously: time to chill out a bit.

Mike Doughty Coming To The Fillmore
While at times, we have to admit, we think of him in that "guy from the band I was into 10 years ago" kind of way, we here at H.A.D. still have a soft spot for Mike Doughty. The former Soul Coughing front man has been steadily releasing quality albums since his former band broke up, and we've enjoyed keeping up with his unique semi-spoken-word stylings. Well, Mike (formerly just M. if you're keeping track) is back with a new disc Golden Delicious, and will be playing at the Fillmore on April 29th. We've heard killer things about his live show, and we definitely dug on the Soul Coughing live experience back in the day. In the meantime, enjoy this tune off the new disc.
