Pixies Give Away 2004 Coachella Recording

Believe it or not, there was a time when the Pixies had been broken up for years, and talk of a reunion was whispered in hushed tones. All that ended when the band reunited in 2004, and proceeded to take over the world with the "Pixies Sell Out" tour. Since then, the band has been out and about, touring Debaser in full, releasing a new track here and there, and generally keeping themselves well accounted for.

Well, along those lines, the band has decided to rejuvenate their website, and bring their brand new on-line identity to the world. What's more, they're apparently so excited about the appearance that they've decided to give things away for free! What, you ask? Well, specifically, and audio recording of their 2004 show at Coachella in Indio, CA. While the band did indeed play a few warm up gigs, for many this was the first show of the reunion.

The night holds a special place in our hearts here at HAD, since it was our first ever Coachella, and was truly a blast. The band is generously giving it away, but their generosity only lasts a week, and all they want in exchange is your email address. Head over to this promo site to grab the full show now. Win!

Pixies Announce London Shows, Release Live Version Of "La La Love You"

Aw, those irresistable Pixies: the band have just announced a pair of off-the-cuff London dates on June 3rd and 4th at Troxy in London. The shows are on sale, and available exclusively through the band's own site. Take that Steve Jobs!

What's more, the band has released a new live version of "La La Love You" in both video (above) and audio (below) form.

Now that's a nice way to start the week, eh?

Pixies Played Jimmy Fallon - Video

After a rather underwhelming performance of "Here Comes Your Man" on Conan, we were starting to lose a little enthusiasm for the Pixies' recent Doolittle retrospective tour. Thankfully, last week the band redeemed themselves on Jimmy Fallon with a killer version of "Debaser". Check it out above.

David Bowie (and Tin Machine) - "Debaser"

It's no secret that that Doolittle is considered by many to be The Pixies masterpiece, and with good reason: the record is a killer front-to-back listen. However, perhaps less well known is that in the early 90's (with his band Tin Machine, pictured above) David Bowie covered Doolittle's opening track "Debaser" with some regularity.

While it doesn't quite have the perfection of The Pixies version, we have to admit we dig Bowie's take quite a bit. The band (who already had a pretty solid bluesy vibe going) take on the song as a sped up heavy rock version of its former self. It's not the original, but if you're a bit of a Bowie fetishist (as we most certainly are), then it's worth your time.

The version here is a fantastic sounding board feed from the band's 12-17-1991 show at San Francisco's own Warfield. Enjoy!

Pixies Fox Theater Doolittle Presale On Thursday At 10 AM

Well, we're not gonna tell you it's an easy choice, but everyone needs to priortize: at the same time that Bob Dylan tickets go presale tomorrow morning, so do tickets for the Fox Theater Pixies shows on November 8th and 9th. Yes, these are the same shows where the band will be playing Doolittle in its entirety, and generally doling out huge doses of awesomeness. We're not gonna tell you what to do, but, you know, people gotta make tough choices in life, right? Click here for the presale, the password is "debaser". Good luck!

Pixies Bringing Doolittle Tour To The US

Sure, you knew it was bound to happen, but it's nice to have some reassurance: Pixies have announced that they will in fact be bringing their Doolittle album tour to the US. The tour, if you need reminding, is to celebrate the 20th (!!!!) anniversary of the seminal record by playing it in full. Given that Doolittle is our fave of the band's catalog, we're more than a little psyched.

While the only "officially" confirmed dates thus far are in Europe, Frontman Frank Black has confided of dates in Oakland, Los Angeles, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC, New York City, and "maybe" Montreal. While the venues and dates haven't been announced, we'd say smart money is on the Oakland show being at the newly renovated Fox.

Should be a perfect way to celebrate your newly-purchased Minotaur goodness. Yum.

Pixies Play "Bone Machine" At Minotaur Launch Party - Video

Yesterday we mentioned the Pixies box set on tap for this fall, Minotaur. Well, apparently the band saw fit to celebrate the set well in advance of its ship date, as this video demonstrates. The band played a set at London's Village Underground, and it included this killer version (video above) of "Bone Machine".

Look, we'll just come out and say it: are all these break ups and reunions really necessary? Can't we just get Pixies all the time? Please?

Pixies Box Set Minotaur To Have Surround Sound

We're sure by now you've probably heard all about the forthcoming Pixies box set, Minotaur. Amongst other things, there will be two editions of the set, and a host of artsy extras. Depending how much dough you're willing to cough up, you could wind up with CD's, DVD's, Blu Ray Discs, one of two art books, vinyl pressings, and much more. It's all very exciting.

However, what you may not have noticed is that the box set will also feature 5.1 surround mixes of the record. We here at HAD are unabashed surround-lovers, and we couldn't be more excited about this revelation. While the format is unquestionably on the decline, we still love it, and thankfully innovative bands like The Pixies, Bowie, and Flaming Lips are managing to keep it afloat. Cheers to that.

In addition to all this box set goodness, the band is also planning a tour based around the anniversary of our favorite Pixies record, Doolittle. While all of the dates are currently relegated to Europe (boo!), we're keeping our fingers crossed that it will make it to the US sooner rather than later. We could really use us some Debaser show-opener style.

The Minotaur box set drops in late September.
