The National To Stream High Violet Starting Friday

Ah, the inevitable album leak: these days it seems there's just no way around it. Case in point, The National's High Violet (cover art above). Apparently the record has leaked in what the band is calling a "low quality" form, and is currently making its way around the interwebs.

While we don't have that crappy version for you, we do have this: To lay it down against the haters, the band has decided to begin streaming the record this Friday in its intended high quality form. Where, you ask? Well, we're guessing you'll be as surprised as we are: The New York Times.

Yes, we're not exactly sure what the deal is either, but we're definitely not complaining. High quality free album streams are the bomb, even if they are hosted at the old gray lady.

Wilco (The Album) Streaming On Wilco's Web Site

On Monday we mentioned that we were hankering to hear Wilco's latest, and apparently our prayers were quickly answered. The band has released a statement that the record has apparently leaked, and so in keeping with Wilco tradition, they've begun streaming the album via their web site.

The site itelf has been completely revamped as well, and there's a lot to check out. We're still in the midst of our first listen to the record, so those thoughts will be forthcoming. Meanwhile, what are you waiting for? Get over there and listen!

Oasis' Dig Out Your Soul Has Leaked

We've been waiting a while for this one, and from what we've heard so far, it's sounding pretty good. Oasis' new album Dig Out Your Soul has been leaked to the world wide internets. Music Induced Euphoria has some tracks, and Stereogum has a full review. Us, well, we're still waiting to hear the whole thing, being afraid of the RIAA and all. :(

New Oasis Track For Your Delight

We here at H.A.D. have been pretty partial to Oasis' recent (and we think criminally underrated) albums: Don't Believe The Truth and Heathen Chemistry were both killer efforts that demonstrated the band's new found collaborative focus, and escaped something of a rut for the band's sound. In 2006, we enjoyed catching the documentary Lord Don't Slow Me Down in a sneak preview at the Embarcadero Center, but since then we haven't heard much from the band.

Well, that's all about to change: In addition to a fall tour, the band has a new record on the way, Dig Out Your Soul. Last week, there was some noise as a Chemical Brothers remix of one track was leaked. Well now the actual track has been leaked, and we like what we hear. "Falling Down" is a hazy, psychedlic jam that manages to pack a lot of punch while at the same time remaining completely subversive and chill. Yes, we're looking forward to hearing the rest. Indeed.

New Nine Inch Nails, "Discipline", Available For Free

In his continued one-man-fight against the record industry, Trent Reznor has just released the latest Nine Inch Nails single, "Discipline", for free on the web. Go here, enter your email, and get a free mp3!

To our ears it's pretty classic, straight-ahead rock Nine Inch Nails. Which is to say, awesome. The really neat thing is that it has a lot of the classic analog synths of early NIN, while at the same time incorporating some of the keyboard work of more recent stuff. It's a really nice contrast to the ethereal ambient vibe of Ghosts. Highly recommended.

New Weezer: A Return To Form

So, Weezer have just posted the lead single from their forthcoming self titled "red album", and it sounds pretty damn good. Being that we (along with, oh, everyone else) were highly disappointed in Make Believe, we really are hoping that this go around is a bit better. If the single is any indication, we may be in for some "Pork and Beans" still has the big, crunchtastic riffs that have come to dominate the band's sound of late, but there are also sweet sounding pianos, all the backing vocals you could want, and some nice acoustic guitars. Sure, it sounds like Weezer, what do you expect? But, it's got soul: something that the band had been lately lacking.

New Radiohead Album "In Rainbows" Breaks 10/10

Well, the news is all over at this point, but in case you missed it: the new Radiohead album "In Rainbows" drops on October 10th, and the band is allowing listeners to pay as they see fit for the digital download. Leave it to Radiohead to break ground not just musically, but with their business model as well. Should be interesting to see how it turns out.

Anton Newcombe leaks new Brian Jonestown Massacre album My Bloody Underground To The Interwebs

Continually anti-corporate rock icon Anton Newcombe continued his crusade on August 31st by releasing the latest Brian Jonestown Massacre album, My Bloody Underground, for free download. The album has yet to be played live, and is being described by fans as "utterly spectacular" and having a "primitive power and intensity". Others seem to think that the album is primarily demos and/or raw material. Anyway, if you're up to tolerate some popups to get the blood flowing for Monday's show, have a listen yourself!
