Spoonapalooza: More Live Material Than You Can Shake A Stick At

Spoon at The Fillmore, from the HAD Archive

The new single "Got Nuffin" may be the only new studio material out of Spoon in quite some time, but that doesn't mean that the band isn't keeping busy. Over the last few weeks they've played their own mini-festival, attended Merge XX, and added a spankin' new bonus track to their web site. It's enough to make any devotee smile.

First, the mini festival: Spoon X3 took place in Austin, and was essentially a checkup for the hometown heroes with their most devoted fans. By all accounts the three day mini-fest was epic, and apparently the band thinks so as well: they've decided to release all three nights up for download via their web store. While they sadly decided to remove new tracks from the listing, it still is a gamut of live material from a band who really blazes in the live environ. What's more, it marks the first official concert release for the band, which is a win in any light.

Second, the band managed to also check in for their label Merge's anniversary fest, Merge XX. The number of bands in attendance was huge, and Spoon was just a piece of the pie. That being said, we were psyched to see this video (above) surface where Mac from Superchunk joins the band on stage during their set. Wish we could have been there.

Finally, as they are wont to do, the band has updated their monthly "bonus track", this time with a searing version of the closing track from Kill The Moonlight, "Vittorio E". There's nothing like some tasty free tunage, and as long as Spoon's offering it up, we'll be collecting. You can download below.

So, like we said: we're waiting with bated breath for the next Spoon record, but in the meantime it's nice to see that they've got something to help us get our fix. Well played, gents.
