Graham Coxon Acoustic Tunes And Interview - Video

Despite the fact that it dates back to his SXSW performance and album release of earlier this year, this video segment of Graham Coxon is no less interesting for being a few months old. In the clip, Coxon discusses the music industry, his inspirations, and the motivation behind his most recent record, The Spinning Top. What's more, he manages to get in a few performances, and we see some sick acoustic fingerpicking style that is a bit out of the norm for the typically electric axe wielding guitarist. Check it out now!

Graham Coxon Readies New Solo Release

Despite busying himself with the imminent Blur reunion, it appears that Graham Coxon has also managed to get himself in the studio with Stephen Street to record a new solo record. As huge fans of Coxon's previous solo records, we have to say we're more than a little psyched. What's more, Coxon being in the studio with Street seems to be a solid combination, as the two worked on Coxon's previous release Love Travels At Illegal Speeds, and more recently on Peter Doherty's Grace/Wastelands.

While we have to admit we're praying for a US release (shelling out $30 for Love Travels At Illegal Speeds as an import was downright painful), we'll be on board either way. The album is entitled The Spinning Top, and apparently is a song cycle that follows one man from birth to death. The full record is streaming at Coxon's myspace page, and we have to say that it's downright mellow. While Coxon's last record was a massive dose of punk and hardcore influences, The Spinning Top is awash in Nick Drake reminiscent riffs and smoothly delivered vocals.

The change of pace suits Coxon, and the record has an intimacy and warmth that was absent in his recent work. What's more, it has some experimental elements and musical branches that are some of the most interesting work we've ever heard from Coxon. Considering that the return to Blur will no doubt be a rock and roll affair, we're glad to have this record to put in our back pocket. It's the perfect record for the oncoming spring and summer, and a clear indicator that Coxon is as prolific ever. We're digging it quite a bit - head over and give a listen.

Graham Coxon Joins Pete Doherty For Solo Gig - Video

Given that the two worked on Doherty's solo record together, it should really come as no surprise that Graham Coxon has decided to join the Babyshambles front man on stage for his London club dates. Still, as we ramp up to the release of Grace/Wastelands and the reunification of Blur, we can't help but be psyched that their paths are intersecting.

All that's thanks largely to Stephen Street, who apparently introduced the pair and encouraged the collaboration, and was on stage at the London show as well. Check out the vid of Doherty and Coxon above, and then head over to Street's website where he's posted some archival footage of Blur recording Parklife!

New Pete Doherty Solo Record In The Can, NME Has The Breakdown

You may recall that Babyshambles' last record was one of our favorites of 2007, and that we've been eagerly awaiting Pete Doherty's next Stephen Street-helmed solo effort (with Graham Coxon in tow). Well, now word has come across the wire that NME has apparently come across the "first copy" of the new record, and they've done us all the favor of a track by track breakdown of the new disc. Enjoy.

Brit Popgasm: Doherty And Coxon Working Together

It shouldn't really come as a surprise that Pete Doherty and Graham Coxon are working together. The moody exiles of two of Britain's most beloved rock bands have both engaged Stephen Street to produce their solo records, and they both have a penchant for some pretty freeform musical explorations. In other words, it just makes sense.

After the (frankly, Beatlesesque) video above dropped a month ago, folks started officially "wondering" about the potential for collaboration. Well now Babyshambles' drummer Adam Ficek has all but confirmed the fact. Given that we here at HAD have been pretty impressed by both Babyshambles and Coxon's recent output, we have to say we're pretty excited. Really excited, actually. Tasty.
