Wilco Underwhelmed Us On The Tonight Show

Look, we do like the new Wilco record, and lord knows we're huge fans of Tweedy and Co., but last night's performance on Conan just felt....empty. Sure, the band was playing in their fancy-shmancy suits, but they just seemed spaced out and sort of bland. Suffice it to say that it feel short of what we know the band is capable of, and it didn't exactly help that the refrain of "You Never Know" includes the lyric "I don't care any more".

We're sure things will be much better in Berkeley on Saturday. Stupid TV.

that made me crack up. you think they might still be upset over Jay's passing?

No idea - word is that their shows at The Wiltern have been fantastic though, so it seems more likely that it's just a case of music on TV not rocking like it should sometimes.

Someone in the comments section on Stereogum said the following:

"Pretty sure the guy with the black Les Paul is in Conan's band. I assume the other guy playing acoustic won an audience participation contest before the show."

No idea if that's correct, but it's a hypothesis at least...

I don't know Wilco well, but during this performance they looked and sounded a bit like the Rolling Stones. I thought it rocked. Now I have to look into their other songs...

If you thought this performance rocked, you're in for a treat. Top notch Wilco beats this by a mile!
