Stereolab: New Record, Video Interview, Two Nights At The Fillmore

In the wake of Mary Hansen's death, Stereolab seem to be holding their own: the band's second record since the tragedy has been released this fall. Chemical Chords has all the trademark Stereolab elements: dreamy synths, wispy vocals, and bouncy percussion. The band was apparently trying to "channel" Motown on the record, and sure there are more horn lines than are typical on a Stereolab disc. Still, (unlike, say, Elvis Costello on Get Happy!!!) the band's own sound eclipses any real genre-bending: this is unquestionably a Stereolab record, and any impressions you had of them on the past are probably going to hold strong.

In addition to the new record, the band is also in full swing on tour. This includes two nights at The Fillmore on October 21st and 22nd. If you want to catch your own special dose of dreamy synth-pop, well then this is just the thing. Tickets for both shows are still on sale.
